Next Fennovoima project major milestone at the turn of the year

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy informed in July that the Finnish Government is expected to give its decision on nuclear power plant license or licenses at the turn of the year. After that, the government decision is submitted to the Parliament for approval.

Fennovoima's project is proceeding as scheduled. The company, that was founded in 2007, submitted its Decision-in-Principle application for the Government in January 2009. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was carried out during 2008 and an approving statement for the EIA was given for Fennovoima in February 2009.

According to the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, all three nuclear power plant applications will be processed at the same time. In addition to Fennovoima, Fortum and TVO are applying for a license.

If Fennovoima is granted a license, construction work at the site will start in 2012. and the nuclear power plant is expected to start electricity production by the year 2020.
